COLOR RIBBONS
Studio Constructs.
Despite their vast aesthetic differences, a direct path links my Electric Masks to their successor, the Color Ribbon series. Each engages with the camera’s direct vision of an illuminated studio construct such that the resulting photographs convey that which would be visible to one considering the construct as a sculpture.
In contrast to the Electric Masks, which provide only external reflection, the Color Ribbons originate as small, tabletop constructs of white paper with glossy twists that provide both internal and external reflection. Initially, the series started in a lyrical manner. As demonstrated by Color Ribbons 9636, my nascent efforts focused on the mergers of color and shadow—a familiar theme throughout my work.
